MS Society Camps in Loudoun County

Robyn Swift is the senior bike-ride coordinator for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. In addition to planning the MS Bike Ride, she also works on the Women Against MS luncheon, the Ambassador’s Ball, the Spring Walk, and the MS Challenge Walk. Swift has worked for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for two years.

Storage: “The local chapter of Security Storage offers us logistical support for all of our events. We’ve been working with them for roughly 15 years. As far as moving our materials goes, they supply the bulk of our support storing on the weekend of our events. This company also helps us raise dollars for the Society, volunteers, and participates in the events. The biggest thing for us is to keep cost down, and Security Storage’s support is in-kind and charitable. There aren’t very many companies that would do that.”Catering: “For the last four years, Corner Bakery Café has catered our Bike Ride luncheon, which includes 900 lunches, for free. They are wonderful and very easy to work with. They are the kind of vendor that you don’t have to tell them twice to do something—they need very little direction. Corner Bakery is very punctual and they can accommodate any dietary needs, including [food for] vegans.”

Venues: “For the past five years, Franklin Park has been our start and finish location for the Bike Ride because it’s a great setting. It’s a fairly large and beautiful park with a swimming pool and tennis court and multiple baseball fields. They are very gracious in opening their space up to us. They open up the park extra early, around 5:30 a.m., and offer their own supplies including tents, tables, and chairs to keep costs down for us. We take up a lot of space, especially with cars, and they also give us parking.”

“We've used Loudoun County Fair Ground as the overnight post-ride location for five years consecutively and 12 years in total. We have our cyclists camp out there with tents set up and bands playing and evening festivities. We can give them an estimated number of attendees beforehand—and often times the number rises—but the fair ground is very dependable, and they always accommodate us.”
