\'Sleep No More\' Venue Available for Events

Skylight Group, the company that manages independent venues in SoHo, Midtown West, and Brooklyn, has partnered with Emursive, the team behind the site-specific show Sleep No More, to host events at the production's West Chelsea home. The new venture, known as Skylight at the McKittrick Hotel, allows corporate groups and functions to take place at the artfully conceived space, utilizing the immersive and experiential setup as a backdrop.

The show, a noir-style riff on Macbeth, allows masked audience members to choose their own path within the venue, exploring meticulously decorated rooms as actors pass through, performing wordless scenes meant to suggest the storyline. It has been a buzzy hit since opening in the spring.

Spread across five floors and 100,000 square feet, the McKittrick (more haunted house than hotel, truly) houses more than 100 rooms, each filled with props and furniture designed to be touched, toyed with, and opened—all of which are available for events—and features a troupe of two dozen performers. For instance, brands can take over the High Street section, which has a candy store, or the Manderley Bar, and have actors interact with guests. Skylight at the McKittrick can also arrange for smaller groups to see the show and host a reception. Skylight at the McKittrick Hotel is also looking to build a private room, an undertaking not likely to open until next year.

While the project is a departure for Jennifer Blumin's company, which is known for its blank slate-style spaces, it also marks the launch of Skylight Group's ability to produce theatrical events—inside or outside the venues it manages. Through the partnership, the company has access to a roster of talent, which can be used to provide atmosphere and performers at corporate and nonprofit functions.
