On September 17 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York City Opera staged the United States premiere of the opera Anna Nicole. At the after-party, Great Performances decorated the dessert table to look like a boudoir. The menu was written on mirrors in red lipstick, jewelry boxes and glass jars overflowed with candy, and Lucite displays held cones of pink cotton candy.

On January 23, the Walrus Foundation—the nonprofit behind magazine The Walrus—hosted its annual gala at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto. With a “Literary Life” theme, the event had tabletop decor that included books created by Toronto artist Kalpna Patel. The books had pages that were artfully folded and glued together.

Although the dress code was black-tie and the champagne flowed at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum's Butterfly Ball in Chicago on May 3, the gala had a farm-like atmosphere. Playing off the event's "Savour Nature" theme, which highlighted the new exhibition "Food: The Nature of Eating," Event Creative brought in vegetable-centric decor. Tables were decked with miniature gardens potted with tomatoes, colorful peppers, asparagus, and kale; around the centerpieces, fairy lights in miniature Mason jars added to the elegant yard-party vibe.

Held at the Getty Center in Los Angeles on November 9, the award dinner featured glowing tables decked with butterflies.
