Since July 4 is almost upon us, my editors decided it might be a good time for me to catch up on the culinary scene by leafing through the latest issues of food magazines (plus a few design titles) in search of interesting ideas. While slogging my way through a big stack, I noticed that almost all of them have the same stories. Burgers are back! Grilling is in! Colorful cocktails fit the season! You get the picture. But every now and then I found something noteworthy, just not necessarily always in a good way.
So here are my favorite ideas—both good and bad—from the likes of Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Every Day With Rachael Ray, and more.
