Modular Staging Systems
Modular Staging Systems
In an effort to prevent large staging and exhibit structures from ending up in landfills, Arlington, Virginia-based design firm Beth Singer Design (703.469.1900, bethsingerdesign.com) is developing modular staging systems that can be reused, reconfigured, and resized. The portable, lightweight frames are easily customized with a variety of wrinkle-free fabric skins.

For a kickoff event for New York Comic Con in October, Clickspring Design transformed a nightclub into a futuristic world featuring a “cyberpunk, neon-noir” look meant to evoke Blade Runner 2049, one of the movies being promoted at the convention. Designers used reflective finishes, LED video displays, glowing neon, and materials such as corrugated polycarbonate to create an eye-catching stage design. The event was produced by CAA and ReedPop.

Romney's strategists envisioned 'America's living room' as the design for the convention stage inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum. 'We used the same wood tones to frame the screens, but they are layered so they are a mosaic of shapes. Above the whole thing are these skylights made out of screens as well. So in a sense it has a domestic architecture to it. It has a ceiling and walls and the things that are more typical of a living room architecture,' said Fenhagen.

AOL Future Front
AOL Future Front

AOL hosted its first-ever Future Front on September 28 at Pier 36/Basketball City in New York. The event's focal installation was a three-story DJ tower that housed five DJs in cubes playing hip-hop, electronic, Top 40, rock, and throwback-style tunes. Built with scaffolding, the tower featured shifting light, music, and video styles and allowed DJs to play solo sets, participate in music battles, and combine genres. Four of the squares projected video that showed social feeds, DJ information, and live shots of the DJs performing. The event was produced by Barkley Kalpak Agency.
