Outward Bound National Benefit Dinner

Nonprofit educational organization Outward Bound hosted its National Benefit Dinner on October 18 at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York. Artist Michael Arthur, who specializes in live drawings of key moments, sketched on a visible screen as nine current and former students—including featured speaker author Michael Lewis—spoke about their experiences in the organization. The artistic showcase was designed to capture the impact and inspiration created by an Outward Bound experience.

Keep a Child Alive's 13th annual Black Ball took place at the Hammerstein Ballroom on October 19. The event, which celebrated the spirit of '80s activism in the fight against AIDS, featured a live installation created by British visual artist Shantell Martin.

The Bronx Brewery in New York celebrated the release of its golden ale Bronx Banner with a tasting party on August 10. Bronx-born artist Andre Trenier created live mural art throughout the event.

Talking Vending Machines

People have largely become immune to the vending machine—an innocuous part of daily life that distributes everything from candy and subway passes to iPhones. Talking vending machines, however, offer a witty way to break through the familiarity and create surprise. Machines custom-built by SoHo Experiential that dispense a variety of goods—including food, beverages, coupons, and electronics—can be set up at events and controlled via remote camera feed so the operator has an authentic, direct interaction with guests. Pricing is available upon request.

Relate is a new conference series from software company Zendesk that is focused on exploring relationships and customer service. To tie to that theme, organizers offered a thank-you note station at the May event in San Francisco. The company’s in-house creative team designed witty cards and invited attendees to personalize them with a hand-written note expressing their appreciation to their colleagues. More than 300 cards were stamped and then mailed by Zendesk staff, and attendees took home an additional 1,000 cards and envelopes.
