While Mayor Bloomberg doesn't live in Gracie Mansion, he's using the house to host events, most recently a breakfast held by NYC & Company's Convention, Exhibition, Meeting and Event (CEME) Coalition (a group of more than 200 companies organized to bring group business to New York after the September 11 attacks) for more than 80 pharmaceutical meeting planners and CEOs. The event is the first in a series designed to bring meeting, event and trade show business to New York.Great Performances catered the breakfast and served muffins stuffed with shirred eggs, smoked salmon,.phparagus and crème fraîche; spring roasted potatoes; homemade grilled turkey sausage; and an assortment of bagels, croissants and scones. Matthew David Events decorated tables with daffodil and viburnum centerpieces that incorporated pages from New York newspapers and magazines.
A series of speakers including deputy mayor for economic development Dan Doctoroff, NYC & Company president and CEO Cristyne Nicholas and incoming NYC & Company chairman Jon Tisch spoke about how New York businesses are bouncing back from the economic repercussions of the September 11 attacks, and the need for continued support of the city. Reed Exhibitions president Rick White thanked the group before heading off to the Javits Center for the International Pharmaceutical Congress ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the breakfast concluded with a presentation from Lalia Rach, associate dean of the NYU Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, who gave a lecture about appealing to meeting attendees with generation-specific tactics.
Following the breakfast, the group took a meeting and event tour of the city courtesy of Coach USA and ended with a lunch at the 21 Club. Many out-of-town guests attended, and several hotels volunteered rooms, including the Waldorf=Astoria, New York Helmsley Hotel and Millennium Hotels and Resorts.
The gift bag had an assortment of goodies from Agenda magazine, American Financial History Museum, Bizbash Event Media, Bloomingdale's, Bridgewaters and the Glazier Group, Briggs Red Carpet, Coach USA, Ellis Island Immigration Museum, Empire Force Events, ESPN Zone, Grand Central Partnership, Grand Central Terminal, Lillian Vernon, Macy's Visitor Center, Manhattan Passport, New York Masterplanner, NYC & Company, On & Off Broadway and Theatre District International.
CEME plans to hold similar events targeted at the trade show, incentive travel and marketing, financial services and media industries.
