Automaker GM is wont to send cars down high-fashion-style runways alongside celebrities to promote its brand at big-budget events. But this year’s version of the Oscar-week GM Ten event upped the star voltage to an uncommon level, amid sleek white set pieces and quick-paced choreography.GM project specialist Carolyn Landrum and her team, along with Best Events, oversaw the event at Paramount, which featured a white runway flanked by two massive GM-logoed doors—each of which swiveled open to send a car and a celebrity down the catwalk in pairs. Recent Grammy winner Mary J. Blige was the first to take the stage with a shiny GM car, and the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Mario Lopez, Denise Richards, Emmy Rossum, and the cast of Heroes all followed.
Immediately afterward, Texas-based rockers Ghostland Observatory descended onto the runway from a platform on high. (Guests seemed more curious about the duo’s capes and manic dancing than anything.) The pair performed a short set as headliner Beck’s team checked the sound at the head of the runway. Then the hipster Silverlaker took to the runway himself for a spirited set—and those guests who’d wandered outside for more drinks gladly came back in to dance stageside.
