* INCOMING *

1. PRIVATE PARTY: While the Republican National Convention had some Isaac-related cancellations, the events surrounding the convention don't seem to be suffering. So much so, some attendees are finding it hard to get into the parties. The Washington Post: “‘Access and security are tight at this convention—not a lot of party crashers here. Big donors, of course, get in everywhere: There are dozens of exclusive, closed-to-the-press soirees for deep-pocket supporters. And even the larger swath of parties— some 100 or more scheduled for the next few days—have limited their guest lists to GOP insiders.” http://wapo.st/NBZpvB

2. CONCERT CHANGE: Meanwhile, Sarah Evans is now replacing Wyclef Jean as the entertainer at a convention party sponsored by Lifetime Network and Got Your 6, scheduled for tonight at Glazer Children's Museum. Evans is now the fourth person to fill that slot. Originally, it was Willie Nelson, then Randy Travis, followed by Jean and now Evans. Tampa Bay Times: http://bit.ly/NOVHjL

3. PARTY CONSULTING: Lobbyists have found a way around the ethics rules that prevent them from hosting parties for lawmakers. NBC News: "The method: Set up a consulting firm to throw your party and honor your favorite members of Congress. Then sell 'sponsorships' to the event for as much as $50,000 a pop, thereby allowing lobbyists and their corporate clients to party it up–and curry favor–with lawmakers just as they always have...'I would call these pop-up front companies,' says [lawyer Craig] Holman of the new party consulting firms. 'Their whole purpose is to sponsor parties at the conventions that otherwise might be in violation of congressional ethics restrictions. … This is a brand new wrinkle. I’ve never seen this before.'" http://nbcnews.to/SPbBji

4. DATA OVERLOAD: With countless emails, videos, social media posts, and new articles, the Republican and Democratic Conventions are expected to see one terabyte of data sent from each event, requiring Cisco to set up more than 70 miles of copper for local area network (LAN) and more than 50 miles of fiber for the infrastructure. 5. SOCIAL TIME: Organizers of Social Week, which includes seven days of classes, discussions, and panels geared toward social professionals, announced the roster of events slated for New York October 14-21. On the agenda is a two-day conference Press release: http://bit.ly/NsxHaK

6. INDUSTRY ACCOLADES: The Convention Industry Council announced a new award
program for accomplished and up-and-coming leaders called the Pacesetter Awards, which are broken into several categories: Community Service/Humanitarian, Innovations & Best Practices, Environmental Leadership/Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Elected Official, Young Professionals, Lifetime Achievement, Friend of the Industry. http://bit.ly/RS3hA2
