For the second year in Los Angeles, Esquire magazine unveiled its Esquire House 360°, a private home designed to be the ultimate bachelor pad. This year the setup took over a 17,000-square-foot manse high atop Coldwater Canyon with 360-degree views of Los Angeles. (In all, Esquire has pulled the stunt for four years, on both coasts, but in New York it took over an apartment instead of a house, natch.) Esquire vice president and publisher Kevin O'Malley and associate publisher Stephen Jacoby conceptualized the house, which will remain open and active until December, hosting charity events and dinners. Momentum is producing and managing the series of events. Each room in the palatial home is designed by a different individual or company—as a way for the mag to promote its brand and its advertisers—highlighting aspects of the modern man’s lifestyle. The grand entry (designed by Porto Bella Designs with sponsorship from TAG Heuer) features two grand dark wood staircases, beneath a 40-foot skylight, that lead upstairs,
where a wellness room showcases a cutting-edge treadmill and weights and a digital lounge features sleek white chaises, laptops, and stylish guitars decorating the wall. Spaces downstairs include the den, with a 12-foot-wide built-in aquarium running the length of the room (it holds 3,500 fish), and the dining room by Jane Hallworth, with a side wine cellar.
The opening-night event on October 19 was a benefit for the Art of Elysium and featured a new underwater photo exhibit by Michael Muller on the lawn. The U.S. national synchronized swimming team performed in the pool, and guests nibbled on food from Salt Catering.
Esquire next hosted a benefit for the City of Hope cancer-treatment center, a silent auction of hundreds of original signed musical scores, from Gwen Stefani’s latest to the original Superman score, which were displayed in every corner of the house. Gavin DeGraw and Stevie Wonder performed on the lawn stage.
Other events include a benefit for Oxfam, a summit hosted by Michael Milken focusing on medical research, the fourth-annual Oceana award gala, an event for the Hollywood Entertainment Museum, VH1’s Save the Music gala, and smaller private dinners, lounge nights, and screenings.
