When people in other parts of the country conjure (or fantasize about) Southern California, the image might involve something like beaches, surfing, celebrities and beautiful people, and endless summer. And that essentially summed up the scene at Boost Mobile's barbecue at the Polaroid Beach House in Malibu on Saturday, which dispensed with the ho-hum party fare by offering surf lessons on the beach in front of the property.
Alongside pro surfers such as Kelly Slater, Sunny Garcia, Rob Machado, and Ian Walsh, guests tried their luck in lessons given by instructors on the Boost Mobile team. There were no waves to speak of on the warm summer afternoon, but folks took to the water nonetheless. Billabong gear, boards, and wetsuits were on hand for guests to borrow (and freebie Boost Mobile T-shirts were scattered around the house for guests to take home).
"Boost Mobile’s company culture is endemic to the action sports world, and it was a no-brainer to do something on the beach that also enabled us to share our brand message in an organic and relevant way," said Tricia Bouzigard, Boost's senior manager of entertainment marketing for film and TV.
Off the beach, Macy Gray served as DJ, and Svedka mixed its spirits with Playboy's energy drink at the bars. West Elm's furniture decked the house, and stylists cut and styled guests' hair with Garnier Fructis products.
Fingerprint Communications conceptualized and implemented the Polaroid Beach House program. The consumer electronics brand's pop-up summer venue, now in its second year, features a full-service staff, private chef, chauffeur services, spa amenities, and private fitness training and accommodations for select guests (including Lindsay Lohan, who made it to Boost's party). Events at the house run through Labor Day weekend.
