Here’s a look at some steal-worthy ideas we spotted in May 2024.

Once a month, BizBash brings you even more inspiration for your own gatherings with our "Cool Event Ideas of the Month" column, where we round up some of the creative ideas we haven't had the chance to cover yet.

Our May 2024 roundup includes a high-fashion Met Gala experience from Porsche, a gas station-themed festival fueling station from BÉIS, a Regency era marketplace inspired by Bridgerton, a fiery stunt from Furiosa, and much more.

Porsche's Electric Garden Experience
Porsche's Electric Garden Experience
Guests of the 2024 Met Gala were among the first in the world to experience the design of the all-electric Porsche Macan, the official electric vehicle of fashion’s biggest night. Drawing inspiration from the Met Gala "Garden of Time" theme and the Macan's Provence launch color, experiential agency Public School designed an ethereal Electric Garden on Ninth Avenue in partnership with Porsche Cars North America.

The Electric Garden installation was inspired by the convergence of New York’s concrete jungle, the elegance of nature, and the electric future on the horizon. It came to life through dreamlike vignettes that included gardeners, larger-than-life florals, and fashion, all beneath the light of a lavender moon. The Floratorium handled floral design, Lightswitch handled lighting design, and Christian Siriano handled the fashion. State Model Management provided the models, Kelly Becerra Palomino provided hair and makeup, and Production Glue handled permitting and production support.

Hall des Lumières' Preview Event for SailGP
On May 13, New York's Hall des Lumières hosted a summer kickoff event to preview the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix, one of the final legs of the fourth season for SailGP. (The sport debuted in 2019 and features international teams navigating high-performance F50 foiling catamarans across the water at speeds of over 60 mph.)

The event celebrated the meteoric growth of the league with custom projections designed by Little Cinema spanning the venue’s multistory columns, marble walls, skylights, floors, and 40-foot-high ceilings. The visuals captured the SailGP experience with race footage and visual tributes to the teams and the 10 countries representing the sport.

Guests mingled over drinks and cocktails including the “SailGP Spritz,” then gathered on the ground floor for speeches from SailGP CEO and sailing legend Russell Coutts and New York City Tourism COO Natalie Koepff. This was followed by a roundtable panel featuring four members of the SailGP USA team.

Jhpiego 'Laughter Is the Best Medicine' Gala 2024
Jhpiego 'Laughter Is the Best Medicine' Gala 2024
On May 2, Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, was home to Jhpiego’s "Laughter Is the Best Medicine" gala honoring president of Amazon MGM Studios Jennifer Salke alongside producer husband Bert Salke and Grammy Award-winning artist Ciara. The star-studded event, which drew 450 attendees and raised $1.2 million, honored individuals who have demonstrated commitment to women's empowerment and healthcare equality.

Event producers JM Events Co. created a layered, dimensional stage design that featured moms and children from Jhpiego’s programs around the world. The suspended collage of nine portraits floated above the stage via aircraft cables.

In addition to the stage design, the event's florals were used to continue telling the story of women around the world. JM Events Co. tapped four different floral designers—Lovesome Blossoms, Valerie Jurado, Riot Blooms, and Peachy Petals—to create centerpieces and installations that drew inspiration from South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

BÉIS Pit Stop at Stagecoach
BÉIS Pit Stop at Stagecoach
During the Stagecoach Festival in late April, attendees could visit the BÉIS Travel Pit Stop, designed by creative agency MKG. The desert oasis was modeled after a stylish gas station—but instead of filling up their vehicles, guests refilled their water bottles in BÉIS-branded "gas pumps"—or opted for something stronger at the attached BÉIS Saloon.

The activation, which was open all three days of the April 26-28 festival, also offered phone charging stations, glam touch-ups, and an IRL shopping experience featuring BÉIS’ festival-approved accessories and luggage that could be shipped directly to attendees' homes.

Studs' Luxury Ear-Piercing Pop-Up
Studs' Luxury Ear-Piercing Pop-Up
On May 9, Studs debuted Fancy Studs, a luxury ear-piercing pop-up in New York. For two weeks, Fancy Studs offered an elevated piercing experience with a new fine jewelry collection of 14K gold and white gold earrings featuring lab-grown diamonds. The experience was set in a design-forward space, inspired by Roman arcades, that featured a serene spring palette married with Studs’ signature shapes and neon accents.
Photo: Tory Williams
The Fancy Studs concept drew inspiration from the brand's color palette of mint, moss, and emerald tones. Clean lines and geometric precision dominated the design, while Doric-style columns, scalloped retail displays, and modern archways bridged the gap between traditional and modern aesthetics. Neon accents helped highlight and accentuate the architectural features. Studs co-founder Lisa Bubbers designed the pop-up in collaboration with Maya Elle Annotti of Familiar Stranger.

'Girl Dinner' for Universal Pictures’ 'Abigail'
IHEARTCOMIX collaborated with Universal Pictures on a series of activations for its latest horror release, Abigail. The main event was an immersive horror experience and influencer party based on the TikTok trend of "Girl Dinner." Taking place at the famed Batman Estate in Pasadena, more than 150 creators were invited to attend and partake in the spooky meal.
Photo: Getty Images
Guests entered the house in groups of 8 to 10 with the assignment of babysitting Abigail for a single night—later learning that she was a vampire ballerina, of course. Multiple floors featured horrific scenes, photo ops, catered food and drink, branding from the film, and a finale moment with Abigail dancing on the roof with a decapitated corpse. Ultimately, the immersive event resulted in 103 social posts, with a social reach of more than 433.3 million.

The three-course dinner highlighted Asian Pacific flavors and showcased some of Lakshmi’s cherished family recipes. A performance by Saweetie closed the show before guests headed to a lively after-party presented by Gold House and Billboard, which showcased cuisine by Panda Express and a boba bar by Bopomofo. Performers included A100 honoree Steve Aoki and RuPaul's Drag Race winner Nymphia Wind.
