Convention Industry Council president and C.E.O. Mary E. Power announced on May 29 that she is resigning from her post at the nonprofit organization, as well as her job as Management Options Inc.’s vice president. “After much thought and seven years of dedicated service, I feel it is now time for me to move on,” Power said in a letter to CIC board members. “Due to the high visibility of my position and my commitment to CIC, I did not think it was appropriate to be interviewing while still serving.” Management Options Inc. president Jason Clawson will temporarily be filling Power’s roles in both organizations.

During her tenure at CIC, Power was able to end three years of budget deficits, grow the organization’s reserves to more than $900,000, and increase the number of Certified Meeting Professional certifications from 2,000 to 12,000. Power also oversaw the Accepted Practices Exchange (APEX) initiative, for which she was able to raise $1.83 million in funds.

Formed in 1949, CIC today has 32 member organizations made up of more than 100,000 individuals and 16,500 firms in the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry. Last May, CIC hired Management Options to provide association management services for the organization.
