Housed in downtown Los Angeles at the Music Center, the Center Theatre Group’s Mark Taper Forum recently completed a yearlong, $30 million interior renovation. The 41-year-old theater will reopen to the public with production previews on August 30, and its first production will open on September 14.
The venue’s main lobby doubled in size and features a raised extruded-aluminum ceiling lit in a radial grid pattern and speckled white terrazzo flooring. Updates to the auditorium include new carpeting, upholstery, and olive-toned velour seats, and the space seats 739. The theater’s sidewalls are constructed from zebrawood, and the ceiling is trimmed in walnut.
The space features updated mechanical systems, improved acoustics, and a new lighting grid. Backstage additions include a green room, a hair and makeup room, and a new wardrobe area.
