1. FACEBOOK'S EVENT ENTRÉE: Is Facebook making a move into the event ticketing business? Watchers of the social media giant noticed a "Buy Tickets" feature on Facebook Event Pages. CNET: "As it stands, there's not much to these buttons, save for allowing event creators to link out to ticketing Web sites with an actual button that might garner a bit more attention. Still, the button highlights Facebook's ongoing interest in making its social network a place for commerce, a strategy that could someday give rise to a full-featured ticket-buying platform." http://cnet.co/Y7Aar8
2. STATE STAGING: President Obama delivered his State of the Union speech last night. This year members of Congress dropped the effort to sit next to a member of the opposing party, but they still delivered political theater. Politico: "Once a low-fanfare report from the president to Congress, the annual State of the Union address has become its own grand-stage political extravaganza, replete with celebrities, made-for-TV moments, and now guests who are serving as human symbols of the most contentious political debates in the country." politi.co/WHALC4
3. STEAL THIS IDEA: As part of Fashion Week, Rodarte created a striking runway with staggered pillars of neon lights that could easily adapt to event entrances or decor. New York's The Cut blog: http://nym.ag/YbHUbs
4. LEBRON THE BALLERINA: Basketball meets ballet as the Miami Heat and the Miami City Ballet are celebrating each other's 25th anniversaries in a new promotion. Heat stars LeBron James and Dwyane Wade posed with principal dancers, sisters Jeanette and Patricia Delgado, in photos. Los Angeles Times: "The photos are part of an ambitious national campaign meant not just to promote both institutions, but to highlight the arts scene on Miami's Biscayne Boulevard, where the Heat's American Airlines Arena and the ballet's Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts are located. The campaign also involves appearances at events." http://lat.ms/12IXYHw
