* INCOMING *
1. NEW YORKERS HOPE FOR GAY WEDDING BUSINESS: With the New York State Legislature in talks to vote on a same-sex marriage measure this week (it could still happen today: http://nyti.ms/ilWTyp), we spoke with some event industry folks to gauge the potential impact on the industry.
Wedding planner Marcy Blum told me, "It will be big news for the event and wedding business and I've had tentative inquiries from some friends and some people I don't know who have always wanted to wait until they could get married at home.”
Bronson van Wyck: "I think if you do the math and you realize that Massachusetts's economy has gained over $100 million, it seems logical that the New York economy would be gaining several times that." (According to a study, as of September 2008, 12,167 same-sex couples living in the state had gotten married, and those unions led to a net impact on the state's economy of more than $100 million.)
Designer David Beahm: “The phones are definitely ringing.”
David Bowen, whose event firm, Bowen & Company, just launched a wedding division: “I chose to profile my commitment ceremony from 1993—I couldn't wait—on our new Web site because we are interested in working with LBGT couples to help realize their dreams. We actually had an inquiry just yesterday and we're thrilled at the prospect.”
2. WILL & KATE SELLING OUT EVENT: The Hollywood Reporter: "The one glitzy event of the royal couple's July 8-10 visit to Hollywood is the inaugural BAFTA Brits to Watch dinner July 9 at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets to the black-tie affair were offered only to studios, networks, talent agencies and video game companies…The $25,000 per-table event is now 'essentially sold out,' according to one organizer, with confirmations still coming in."
The concept: "a showcase that introduces 42 young-ish British talents (names have not been released) who have been chosen by BAFTA to meet and hob-nob influential executives and agents."

3. RED BULL'S LATEST: Senior editor Anna Sekula reports: The energy drink maker spent the last two months hosting parties to herald the launch of its new sports magazine, the Red Bulletin, in major cities across the country, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and, most recently, Miami. The avid marketer is also gearing up for Red Bull Creation, a national design competition that will give 16 teams of engineers, architects, coders, and visual artists 72 hours to invent and build something based on one topic. The three-day contest will kick off July 7 and culminate with a live spectator event in Brooklyn's McCarren Park Sunday, July 10, where the winners will be announced.

The legal battle over the Golden Globes is heating up. From The Hollywood Reporter: "In the escalating legal battle over TV rights to the Golden Globe awards, both the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and Dick Clark Productions have filed motions for summary judgment, each claiming that the court should immediately find in their favor in the on-going dispute…The key question in the legal battle is whether the contracts signed by the HFPA essentially granted Dick Clark the right to produce the show in perpetuity, as long as it continued to air on NBC."
