1. CRITICS' CHOICE AWARDS MOVE TO DECEMBER: The Broadcast Film Critics Association has announced that the 22nd annual Critics' Choice Awards will take place a month earlier than usual. The awards show, which usually takes place after the Golden Globes, will be broadcast on A&E and hosted by T.J. Miller. The Hollywood Reporter: "The Critics' Choice Awards have traditionally been held in mid-January—last season's ceremony was held on Jan. 17—usually following the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocation's Golden Globe Awards by a week. But by moving to Dec. 11, the Critics' Choice Awards are looking to plant their flag ahead of the Globes. This season, Golden Globe nominations will be announced Dec. 12 and the 74th Golden Globe Awards will take place Jan. 8. But the Critics' Choice Awards, which is handing out its trophies for both film and TV, will be out in front of those dates. The Critics' Choice Awards' accelerated process will require its members to see film award hopefuls by the end of November. The BFCA timeline for the film awards call for nomination ballots to go out Nov. 28 and be returned the following day. The film nominations will be announced Dec.1. Final ballots will go out Dec. 8 and must be returned by Dec. 9. The timeline for the TV awards, which will cover programming first airing between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, will begin earlier, with nominating committees beginning their deliberations on Nov. 1 and completing them by Nov. 11. The TV nominations will be announced Nov. 14. The final TV balloting will begin Dec. 8 and end Dec. 9. While most of the possible film contenders wiil have been unveiled by the end of November, there are always are few December releases every year that don't begin to screen for awards groups until the last possible moment. And so studios could face added pressure this year to meet the BFCA deadlines." http://bit.ly/2bBxjES
2. WHY MORE WEDDINGS ARE TAKING PLACE ON THURSDAYS: Saturday is the most popular day to throw a wedding, but a number of couples in the U.S. are choosing to get married on Thursdays to save money. According to the Knot, 6 percent of couples got married on Thursdays in 2015, which was up 4.3 percent from 2014. CNN Money: “But as weddings become increasingly expensive, Thursdays are slowly growing in popularity—particularly in cities where couples spend the most like New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to Kristen Maxwell Cooper, executive editor at The Knot. The average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is nearly $33,000, but wedding expenses in some cities can be significantly higher. Booking a venue for a Thursday is 17% cheaper on average than hosting a Saturday night affair, according to Tina Hoang-To, CEO and co-founder of Wedding Spot, a wedding venue marketplace. She says the company has seen a 25% bump in couples inquiring about a Thursday wedding date this year. Along with the savings, Thursday weddings can also be attractive to couples who aren't going on a honeymoon right away and want to take a long weekend to celebrate their new marital status. While etiquette experts might scoff at asking guests to attend a wedding in the middle of the week, it's good news for wedding professionals, like DJs and photographers, who can book more events. And many wedding professionals are more likely to negotiate their rates because there is less competition for their services.” http://cnnmon.ie/2bCwOuu
3. NBC USES OLYMPICS FOR MASSIVE PROMO PUSH: During its broadcast of the Olympics so far, NBC has aired more than 3,000 promos for its shows and N.F.L. games. Advertising Age: "According to iSpot.tv, NBC and its cable network siblings have aired no fewer than 3,066 in-house plugs during the first 12 days of Olympics coverage, a promotional blitz that includes 364 prime time spots. Teasers for programming on the broadcast network alone have aired 1,490 times, of which 231, or 16%, ran in prime time. If frequency is any indication of where NBC's priorities lie, then the Peacock's primary focus is to psyche viewers up for the premiere of its new sci-fi drama series 'Timeless.' A 60-second cutdown for the latest occupant of NBC's plum Monday 10 p.m. slot has aired 266 times since the Games began on August 5, appearing in everything from USA Network's presentation of the preliminary round of badminton competition to NBC's Sunday night track and field coverage. … NBC is also using its Olympics megaphone to make some noise for the eleventh season of 'Sunday Night Football.' Various 15- and 30-second promos for the premiere prime time NFL package have aired 263 times in NBC's Olympics coverage, with NBCSN serving as the primary vehicle. Also reaping the benefits of NBC's Olympian reach are the Nascar Sprint Cup Series (157 spots) and, somewhat paradoxically, the Games themselves (114). (If nothing else, the spots advising people who are actively watching the Olympics to watch more Olympics might be the first promos NBC sacrifices on the alter of makegoods.) NBC's coverage of the upcoming Premier League season (46 spots), its five-game 'Thursday Night Football' rotation (41), the 2016 Paralympic Games (22) and Notre Dame football (20) also have been well-represented throughout the past two weeks." http://bit.ly/2bivX2X
