A hallmark of California architecture may be its
ability to bring the outside in, but car dealerships around the country have
been doing that, well, since there have been cars. That makes them dandy venues
for afternoon events, because they boast more than their share of natural light.
Of course, it helps if the cars have been replaced with bars. That’s what Friendly House did for its Fashion for Life Vision Award ceremony and fashion show held on May 20 at the digs of co-sponsor Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills.
With two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows offering the streets of Beverly Hills as a backdrop, event producer James Campbell Productions added only minimal decor. The space was divided into two areas—one for Q Theory’s silent auction lubricated by soda, coffee, and hors d’oeuvres, the other for the fashion show later in the day. The auction area was dressed in white and deepest burgundy, with the bar top and cocktail tables laid with fuschia calla lilies and peonies set in blood-red, rectangular glass vases.
After cruising tables of handbags, vintage clothing, jewelry, and other treats, guests moved to their assigned seats flanking the runway before the fashion show began. Kristin Davis presented the Fashion for Life Vision Award to Decades’ delighted owner, Azzaro consultant Cameron Silver, who declared the event his “fashion bar mitzvah.”
The event benefited Friendly House, which provides treatment for substance abuse. Some of its grateful graduates volunteered behind the scenes to prep the models for the show.
