The Shakespeare Theatre Company will expand its
home on October 1. The new Sidney Harman Hall will join the company’s existing
Lansburgh Theatre to form the Harman Center for the Arts in Penn Quarter.
Designed by Jack Diamond of Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc., the $85 million Harman Hall will feature a multistory glass atrium with event spaces that offer views of the U.S. Treasury and the National Building Museum. Because it’s a theater, the venue will also be able to offer lighting and sound equipment, as well as production staff. The hall will accommodate everything from board meetings to bar mitzvahs, with space for as many as 775.
