While Fila took the 80's hip-hop theme, the planners for the International Rett Syndrome Association's (IRSA) benefit went for a kitschier take on the 80's at the new venue in the old location of Andy Warhol's Factory. The three-story building was transformed into a candy-colored party space for more than 1,500 revelers—including co-hosts Patrick McMullan, Cynthia Rowley and Alan Cumming—who bid on silent auction lots to raise funds to research a cure for Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder that primarily afflicts young girls. The event was produced by Amanda Juliano of Q&A PR and Events.
Decor included lots of colored spotlights, and floral designer Bill Kocis of Bill Kocis Designs put large arrangements of yellow forsythia in tall faces filled with glittery blue and yellow gel throughout the space. Bars were decorated with rosebuds nestled in beds of glittery crystals inside small rectangular glass vases. On the second floor, Fendi window dresser Josh Lee decorated the foil-covered walls with giant roses made of Styrofoam plates, and a giant heart made of Styrofoam cups hung from the ceiling. Travis Bass of Ultravision projected images of Cumming and music videos from German pop singer and 2Xist underwear spokesman Jay-Jay Johanson on spinning discs suspended from the ceiling.
