Fresh from flexing her choreography chops for the 2007 Super Bowl halftime show, Genevieve Dorion-Coupal turned her attention to the Browns Shoes fund-raiser, "A Step in Time." Dorion-Coupal's production kicked off with a jazz vocal performance by singer, songwriter Amanda Martinez. Next, several freelance dancers, among them principal Browns performer Julio Cesar Hong, took to the stage in a variety of costumes, including bright yellow dresses and flirty white frocks. Of course, they also sported Browns shoes—a different pair for each act—as well as purses and accessories. Youth from the Denise Lester Dance School, decked out in the latest Sketchers running shoes, put their all into an energetic dance routine. The Browns Shoes event benefits the Hospital for Sick Children, specifically the Philip Witchel Fund for Cardiovascular Research. About 500 guests attended the benefit, held in the atrium of Hazelton Lanes shopping centre. Browns Shoes marketing director Natalie-Andre Vallerand coordinated the event from the company's Montreal office with help from Toronto PR agency Cohn & Wolf. Urban Source Catering served appetizers and beverages. Arttech Multimedia provided the massive entertainment stage, located just outside the store. The stage included a huge metal light truss backdrop that the dancers climbed during the show.
Following the production, which ended shortly after the retail shops closed for the evening, ticket holders were invited to do private, after-hours shopping. More drinks and appetizers were served. The event raised $60,000.
