ARC—which stands for animated real-time character—is an interactive, computer-generated host from Ravenstone Productions Ltd., based in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Available since June, the product can be purchased in prerecorded formats or as a live production. ARCs are designed to replace (or enhance the performance of) live presenters. During a meeting or event, the 3D virtual character is projected on a screen, and its face and body are manipulated by a "puppeteer." The virtual host can respond to questions from the crowd, reinforce points of a presentation, and even entertain with witty banter. Ravenstone offers a cast of stock characters, each with a variety of wardrobes and props, or clients can create their own characters. The ARC is appearing as a host during this month's Roger's Cup Tennis Tournament. —Kyle Hosick
