Special Event Boot Camp to Educate Planners

A new boot camp for event management professionals and wannabes holds its first session on August 13 at the Royal Ambassador Event Centre in Caledon, Ontario. The three-day program, dubbed Special Event Boot Camp , is open to participants 18 years of age and older. The focus of the camp is to teach a standard model for planning events. Instruction will be provided by 12 industry leaders, including designer Craig Gruzd of Designing Trendz, catering expert Jayne Dunsmore of Jayneโ€™s Gourmet Catering, and Dawn Smith, founder of Plan It Events in Lafayette, Indiana. Camp starts each day at 10 a.m. and lasts until 7 p.m. On day one, the curriculum focuses on planning. Day twoโ€™s topic is design. On day three, the attendees put their new skills to work to create a gala event; the day culminates in a party and barbeque. Each day, the camp leaders will share event management horror stories in a relaxed setting. Special Events Boot Camp was created by Carol Moxam, founder of Event Edge and Certified Special Event Professional. The cost to attend the camp is $839 (not including GST).
