The Gansevoort Hotel Group, known for its locations in Manhattan and Miami Beach, is opening an eco-friendly hotel/condominium in Toronto in 2011. Construction will begin on the Richmond Street building—designed by Teeple Architects and developed by TAS DesignBuild—next year.
The hotel will include a ballroom, several boardrooms, and a rooftop pool, as well as a number of environmental features like an asymmetrical design that decreases heating and cooling costs. It will be the first LEED-certified hotel/residences in Toronto. An article in Contract magazine discusses the building's sustainable design, while the latest issue of Toronto Life compares the Gansevoort to Lindsay Lohan, calling it "flashy, trashy, and guaranteed to generate gossip." Gansevoort Hotel Group is also planning hotels in Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and London.
