Cindy Goldrick, former vice president of events at the Women's Executive Network, is taking on the role of festival director at Word on the Street Toronto. The largest book and magazine festival in Canada, Word on the Street attracts more than 200,000 visitors to its Queen's Park location each year. The event marks its 20th anniversary on September 27. "I can't believe my luck: to be joining Word on the Street Toronto at this pivotal time in the festival's history is an exciting opportunity," Goldrick said in a statement.

The Royal Conservatory of Music also has a new director. Mervon Mehta has been named executive director, performing arts for the Royal Conservatory of Music at the Telus Centre for Performance and Learning. Mehta will oversee the programming and management of the new Koerner Hall, set to open this fall. The 1,140-seat venue will host a range of musical performances as well as films, lectures, and educational conferences. Mehta returns to Toronto from the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, where he had served as vice president of programming and education since February 2002.
