Forget what you were told about how watching too much TV and movies is bad for you. The small and big screens proved inspirational for the event industry professionals who staged the holiday bash for GWL Realty Advisors. Inspired by a party scene from the film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Meghan Dirks of Catered Affare Cuisine & Event Design and GWL event planner Nancy Harper took the movie's diamond advertising slogan, "A Touch of Frosting," and reinterpreted it with a winter theme for the realty firm's 250-guest holiday party.
The evening began with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails in the foyer, where a jazz trio provided cool sounds. Dinner followed on the trading floor upstairs, where the room's crisp palette of white platinum, steel, and glass accentuated the evening's theme. Shimmering white organza linens from Exclusive Affair Rentals were topped with elegant centrepieces made from blocks of glass, silver-painted branches, and silver balls by Evolving Events International, as well as elegant florals from Avenue Flower.
The menu was simple, beginning with a bread course including hummus and tapenade set in cocktail tumblers. The main course was salmon and chicken on oversize square glass plates with garden vegetable bundles and wild rice. Diners enjoyed a dessert of blood orange sorbet in a chocolate cup, and they could visit the white and dark chocolate fountains to dip gourmet cookies.
During the meal, party band Lam-Chops performed onstage. Following dinner, partygoers danced the night away to music spun by an EJ Entertainment DJ.
