Dove Self-Esteem Fund created a mock school at Toronto Film Studios to introduce a Web site and mentoring program aimed at fostering a positive self-image among girls. Harbinger Communications organized the media launch, which involved five months of planning. The event took place in a “classroom” with 50 1980s-era school desks from the McCaustlin Group, each topped by a healthy red Macintosh apple. The desks faced a stage and blackboard.
Down the hall in a mock cafeteria, Catering by Davids’ served a lunch that included mini brioche sandwiches, mini muffins, crudités, croissants, scones, Danish pastries, and fresh fruit skewers. Rose Reisman Catering supplied some of the baked items.
Students from Henry Street High School in Whitby attended the launch. The students are taking part in a pilot initiative called Girls for Girls Self-Esteem Mentorship Program, which trains older girls to become mentors of younger girls.
