The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) celebrated its 25th anniversary with a gala and awards show at MaRS Centre. OTF is an Ontario government agency that provides grants for volunteer initiatives designed to improve the quality of life of local citizens. During the gala, organizers presented Great Grants awards to various grantees to recognize their accomplishments. Given OTF’s mandate to support communities, it should come as no surprise that the agency served a menu filled with local ingredients and tapped local amateur performers to entertain the guests.
En Ville Event Design and Catering created a finger-food menu with a mix of cold and hot items. The cold menu choices consisted of wild salmon tartare on an organic buttermilk popover with lemon crème, Quebec foie gras brûlée in silver spoons with Pinot Noir and stonefruit chutney, and asparagus dipped in Mapleton’s organic yogurt and rolled in toasted sesame seeds. The hot items included spiced braised organic short rib spring rolls; applewood smoked Lake Huron whitefish on Indian corn cake with lemongrass cream; and roasted cremini mushroom filled with fennel, Woolwich goat’s cheese, and leeks.
Groups that have received OTF funding grants provided the entertainment. The groups included Muhtadi and the World Drummers, Gymnastics Ontario/Futures Gymnastics, Dusk Dances/CORPUS, Bloorview Kids Rehab presents ROCK ON, the Hamilton All Star Jazz Band, and the Regent Park School of Music.
