1. A second location of the Thompson Landry Gallery opened in the Cooperage Building in June. There, 3,300 square feet of gallery space seats 110 or holds 150.
2. The Art Gallery of Ontario, which reopened in November 2008 after an extensive redesign by architect Frank Gehry, has a new event space called Baillie Court. The 7,000-square-foot venue on the gallery’s third floor holds 450 for receptions and seats 300. The area, accessed by three guest elevators, can be partitioned into three smaller rooms using retractable walls of perforated Douglas fir panels.
3. On Yonge Street just south of Bloor, O’Born Contemporary is a small second-floor commercial art gallery available for intimate events. Open since July 2008, the white space has light wood floors and track lighting and can hold 70 for a cocktail reception. There is a small patio at the rear of the gallery.
