Betsey Johnson Fashion Week Show

Designer Betsey Johnson celebrated her 70th birthday on Tuesday with a showing of her spring 2013 collection at Espace during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. To close the festivities, which included a retrospective of designs from her 40-year career, producer ExtraExtra brought in โ80s icon Cyndi Lauper to perform and had Johnsonโs daughter Lulu jump out of an oversize cake.

โHomelandโ Season 2 Premiere

Showtime premiered the second season of Homeland on September 7 with a screening and party aboard New Yorkโs Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. As a nod to the storyline of the show, where central character Nicholas Brody runs for political office, the production team hung campaign banners over the entrance to the decommissioned aircraft carrier.

The Adler Planetariumโs Celestial Ball

The Adler Planetarium hosted its annual Celestial Ball in Chicago on September 9. With a โMilky Wayโ theme, the event had decor from Event Creative. Balls of ghostly blue and white hydrangeas rested atop tall glass vases, channeling the look of orbiting planets. Overhead, starry lights illuminated the dome in the Grainger Sky Theater, giving the impression of a nighttime sky.

Chicago Fund-Raiser for Barack Obama at Greenhouse Loft

On September 13, a Chicago fundraiser for Barack Obama celebrated the hometown candidate with dishes from various city neighborhoods. While snacks representing Greektown and Little Italy are standard fare at events with a neighborhood theme, Fig Catering branched out to also represent Argyle Street. The area, known for its Asian fare, was honored with deep-fried corn kernels and Vietnamese pork-shrimp rolls with yuzu-garlic sauce.

Macyโs Passport Presents Glamorama

Macyโs was back in Los Angeles last Friday with its 30-year-old "Passport Presents Glamorama" fashion show fundraiser, which had a right-on-trend British theme. The "British Invasion: The Music Then. The Fashion Now!" theme, brought a high-energy, colorful stage spectacle headed by Macy's Mike Gansmoe to the historic Orpheum Theatre.
