Molly Hover McCooey joined J. Crew this month as director of event marketing, a newly created position. McCooey was most recently the director of special events at Conde Nast’s House & Garden, a position she had held for nearly five years until the magazine folded in November. With previous stints at Seventeen and Marie Claire, McCooey told us she’s looking forward to a “nice, refreshing, creative turn standing behind a brand instead of behind an advertiser.”

J. Crew brought McCooey on board to generate a consistency in its event planning that hadn’t previously existed. “I started out in fashion retail after college in the buying program at Saks Fifth Avenue; this is a natural progression,” she said. In her new role she'll oversee and develop hundreds of events—across 200 stores—which will include exclusive shopping parties for customers and charities, trunk shows, branding and partnership events with charities, and a college outreach initiative. A fan of the brand since the company launched in the '80s, McCooey said she looks forward to wearing the clothes every day (though, no, it's not required). In related news, after three years as special events director, Lindsey Hicky is leaving Condé Nast Traveler, where she annually produced some 30 editorial events. Hicky will be relocating to Cincinnati but plans to freelance in New York for magazines as well as in the corporate events, production, and design arena.
