TODAY'S CALENDAR: Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival kicks off (through Sunday)

* INCOMING *

1. HOOPS FOR OBAMA: To raise funds for his re-election campaign, President Obama is teaming up with N.B.A. legend Michael Jordan and other basketball stars. The Washington Post: "The Obama campaign is planning a fundraising “shoot-around” and dinner in New York on Aug. 22 featuring several NBA stars, including Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, John Wall of the Washington Wizards and others. Jordan, who played for the Chicago Bulls, Obama’s favorite NBA team, and NBA Commissioner David Stern are co-hosting a $20,000-per person fundraising dinner with the president later in the day." http://wapo.st/PGywqa

2. KOMEN RESIGNATIONS: Susan G. Komen for the Cure president Liz Thompson and board members Brenda Lauderback and Linda Law have resigned, and founder Nancy G. Brinker will also step down from her C.E.O. position but remain in a management role. "In a statement, Komen called the changes 'a new period of transition,' and said Ms. Brinker would move to a new management role focusing on revenue creation, strategy and global growth." http://nyti.ms/P76DNl

3. CONFERENCE TO CONTINUE: Despite criticism from Senate Republicans, a $1 million judicial conference in Hawaii declined to cancel the gathering of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Canceling it would have cost too much, organizers said, although it may drop its 2013 meeting. G.O.P staff, though, have been reviewing the contract and have criticized decisions to book ocean-view rooms as well as the length of the stays. http://bit.ly/OMsaqG

4. NASCAR MARKETING APPEAL: Looking to draw the attention of a broader audience—specifically youth, Gen Y, and Hispanic fans—Nascar announced Tuesday three new executive roles to its brand, consumer, and series marketing team. They "join NASCAR after tenures with world-renowned companies with reputations for deep consumer insights and best-in-class fan and customer relations" such as Coca-Cola, ESPN, and a number of leading Hispanic marketing agencies.
