TODAY'S CALENDAR: Upfront Week continues in New York

* INCOMING *

1. NATO FARE: According to Crain's Chicago Business, even the menus at the NATO Summit are being vetted. In addition to President Obama's event at Solder Field, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will hold court at the Field Museum and offer fare from Carrie Nahabedian, the chef of River North’s Naha restaurant. Discussions over the dishes included officials going "back-and-forth about … a French dessert called 'The Bomb.' Organizers nixed it, according to Ms. Nahabedian, saying 'the description of the dessert didn't coincide with the peaceful nature of NATO.'" http://bit.ly/IYLzRQ

NBC Chicago offers a look inside the NATO gift bags, which will be stuffed with locally made goods and materials aimed at promoting the city's culture. Included in the mix: a Chicago bike map; a personal welcome letter from a local student; goodies from Garrett Popcorn, Vosges Chocolate, and the Wrigley Company; and a free download of music from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. http://bit.ly/MlwjnS

2. FACEBOOK SLEEPOVER: About 1,000 Facebook employees have signed up for an all-night hackathon leading up to C.E.O. Mark Zuckerberg ringing in the Nasdaq bell in honor of the company's I.P.O. TechCrunch: "In the tradition of other hackathons, expect some interesting product ideas to get fleshed out. Facebook Hackathons are a chance for employees to work on half-baked ideas and turn them into real products that eventually get shipped. Everything from Facebook’s chat system to an early version of Timeline called ‘Memories’ have come out of Hackathons." http://bit.ly/Mnw3o9

3. GUINNESS'S DIVE BAR: In honor of its 250th anniversary, Guinness has turned a submarine into a branded underwater bar. AdWeek: "The vessel comes complete with a 'deep-sea bar' and Austin Powers pop-art interior design with lots of rubber discs simulating bubbles." http://bit.ly/LaSzkN

4. RAVN CALLS IT QUITS: The event planning and sharing app plans to shut down at the end of the month. TechCrunch: "When RAVN launched, it had amassed a database of 13,000 events, with the idea that users of the app could find and book events near a specific location, share that event with friends, get access to exclusive events, and keep all of that together in a planner—a little like Time Out meeting Gogobot or Tripbirds or one of the many other social travel/event apps out there. What RAVN might have lacked was a commercial enough element to transform the app into a viable business." http://tcrn.ch/JsgR7J

However, on Tuesday night there were plenty of other tech tools and services for the event industry on display at the second New York PlannerTech. Here's our look at what’s new: http://bizba.sh/JKzIsV

5. SUNDANCE AS MONEYMAKER: How important is the Sundance Film Festival to the Utah economy? An economic impact study showed it generated $80 million, an increase over last year's $70.8 million. It also captured the world's attention. The New York Times: "According to the study, this year’s festival generated $69 million in free media exposure (from 35,224 print and online articles and 2,400 television reports), up from $27 million the year before." http://nyti.ms/KtOJSG

6. FIGHT FOR WINE RIGHTS: A battle between a winery and neighbors who objected to its tasting room was resolved by the Virginia Supreme Court. Washington Post: "The case had been closely watched for its potential impact on Virginia vineyards, which have grown at an explosive rate over the past decade and engendered both ardent supporters and fierce opponents. Proponents, including many state leaders, praise farm wineries for creating a valuable product, attracting tourists and protecting rural land. But some neighbors and local officials complain that the vineyards’ tasting rooms, where the vast majority of Virginia wines are sold, have created poorly regulated taverns in the midst of farmland, bringing crowds and drunk drivers to narrow, dark country roads." http://wapo.st/JPaJWV

* ABOUT LAST NIGHT: UPFRONT WEEK, DAY 3 *

Wednesday was a big day for Turner Broadcasting, with a formal presentation in the morning for TBS and TNT and lively parties hosted by Adult Swim and TruTV at night. Conan O'Brien was the main act at the Hammerstein Ballroom for the TBS/TNT upfront, which thankfully didn't suffer from the technical mishaps of last year. Nearly 12 hours later, T.I. performed at the Roseland Ballroom for Adult Swim's gig, which was followed by TruTV's "hang after" party at Providence with tunes spun by DJ Cassidy. During the day, CBS made its mark for the week at Carnegie Hall, bringing New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning and a hip-hop mashup by LL Cool J and soprano Danielle de Niese to the stage.
