September 10, 2013: How to Order Cronuts—the Real Ones—for Your Event, New Event Focuses on Branded Content, Changing Music Festivals' Drug Habit

1. HOW TO ORDER CRONUTS—THE REAL ONES—FOR YOUR EVENT: Looking to serve cronuts at an event in November? Mark your calendar for October 1: For large orders of more than 50 cronuts, Dominique Ansel Bakery requires one month's advance notice. The list for large orders is full through October, but people can email [email protected] on October 1 for pickup orders November 1-30. Orders will be confirmed based on when they were received; include preferred date and time of pickup, number of cronuts, and a phone number.

2. WHY MUSIC FESTS HAVE A DRUG PROBLEM: The drug culture at electronic music festivals is harming not only fans—seven have died since March—but also the fests's fast-growing business model. The New York Times: "Executives say that deaths like these have the potential to scare off investors and the corporate sponsors that are eager to reach the genre’s young, affluent and technologically connected fans. The ecstasy-related deaths come just weeks before an expected initial public offering by SFX Entertainment, a new company whose fortunes are predicated on sponsorship and media deals for electronic dance music, or E.D.M. According to its prospectus, SFX wants to raise as much as $300 million through its I.P.O., much of it to acquire promoters like Made Event, the company behind Electric Zoo." http://nyti.ms/17n6HiU

3. NEW EVENT FOCUSES ON BRANDED CONTENT: In an event cheekily called the  Final Front, media agency OMD is bringing together marketers and content creators to push the concept of branded content, or how to weave their messages into entertainment programming. New York Times: "The event, being held at the DreamWorks Animation SKG office in Glendale, Calif., is being styled like an auction. After each content creator makes a 15-minute presentation of potential projects, the marketers in the room can hold up a paddle marked “Plan,” signaling a willingness to plan a project with that company, or a paddle marked “Brief,” signaling a lack of enthusiasm for what was presented but a desire to brief that company to come up with another idea." http://nyti.ms/15SEE76

4. TOMMY HILFIGER CREATES FASHION WEEK 'SOCIAL CONCIERGE': At Tommy Hilfiger's New York Fashion Week presentation, his team devised a new way to promote the runway looks. Mashable: "Perhaps even more neat—from an online reporter's perspective, at least—was the introduction of a 'social concierge' program that allowed attendees to request photos, quotes and other assets from a team positioned around the runway and backstage. Attendees were notified of the service the evening before the show and could request assets before, during and after." http://on.mash.to/1ezoGqu
