* INCOMING *

1. OLYMPIC LEAK: Despite the pleas from hashtag #savethesurprise, footage from the Olympic opening ceremony still leaked—but was quickly removed from YouTube. Social Times: "During the rehearsal the show’s artistic director, Danny Boyle, appealed to spectators to 'save the surprise' and not to share footage of the rehearsal before the event, but that didn’t stop some spectators from uploading videos of the rehearsal to YouTube." http://bit.ly/Px2hNR

London florist Jane Packer was selected to design and produce the "Victory Bouquet" for the medal winners at the London 2012 Olympics. The flowers and herbs in the 4,400 floral bouquets are British-grown and will be made at the time of the Games with the help of floristry students across the country.

2. RANDY REPUBLICANS: Tampa's strip clubs are having quite the year: First as the setting for the film Magic Mike, and next month as a provider of unofficial entertainment during the Republican National Convention. One club even expects to showcase a Sarah Palin look-alike. New York Times: "Club owners here say they have schmoozed with their counterparts in former host cities, like Denver, and have been told that revenue pours in during conventions, sometimes quadrupling earnings from a Super Bowl week. As for party affiliation, this is one place where the country’s caustic partisan differences fall away, owners say. Angelina Spencer, the executive director of the Association of Club Executives, which serves as a trade association for strip clubs, said an informal survey of convention business in New York and Denver had determined that Republicans dropped more money at clubs, by far." http://nyti.ms/MOSQcv

Time Warner Cable will be the premier sponsor of the Democratic National Convention's media welcome event September 1 at the North Carolina Music Factory. The Charlotte in 2012 Host Committee also selected the following local vendors to provide services for the party:

Logistics Manager: J.H.E. Production Group
Entertainment Team: Blumenthal Performing Arts, Imagine Music Group, Key Signature
Catering Company: Something Classic
Audio Visual Services Team: Total Event Production, Rutherford Media, Advanced Media Network, Cecil & Company
Rental Company: Party Reflections.

3. WIRED ADDS EVENT: Wired magazine's event portfolio is growing with the launch of a new event, Wired Health Conference: Living by Numbers, October 15-16 in New York, which will be followed by Wired Live, consumer show in Washington. Folio: "The Wired Live Expo, which is being produced by Marketplace Events, will be its first sizeable new launch in the face-to-face market in recent years, attracting an expected 50,000 attendees. In contrast, the Health Conference is designed as an invitation-only event, bringing together about 225 thought-leaders and innovators across the worlds of healthcare, science and technology." http://bit.ly/Mouy6r

4. THE 'NEW HEARTLAND':
Paul Jankowski, chief strategist at Access Brand Strategies, advises brands not to overlook a key market, what he calls the "new heartland" in favor of New York and Los Angeles. His firm has developed campaigns for Lipton iced tea and Mountain Dew that try to resonate with what others may dismissively call "flyover country." AdWeek: "At the end of the day, does it resonate with 60 percent of U.S. consumers and is it culturally relevant or is it creative for the sake of creative? This group has been underserved and has been dismissed. Worst of all, are the use of stereotypes: It doesn’t matter if it’s a stereotype about the South or stereotype of a certain culture or one about a race. That’s happened a lot as it relates to this massive group of consumers." http://bit.ly/LQP02Y

5. BAD CLIENT: In his blog, Preston Bailey counsels a Chicago event planner whose potential client was shopping the proposal to the competition and looking for a better price. "You must always remember that you are selling your ideas. When you present ideas in person, you have a chance to share your enthusiasm and excite the client while also helping to address any questions they might have." http://bit.ly/OM8CBa
