The Planet Hollywood chain is one of the newest full-scale resorts and casinos (with all the bells and whistles) on the Strip. Here's what's inside.
Back from bankruptcy, the movie-star-endorsed worldwide chain debuted the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino at the space formerly home to the Aladdin in August 2007. The massive entertainment complex includes 2,600 movie-themed suites, 170 retail outlets, the 60-seat casino-side Heart Bar, and lots of meeting space, including a 36,864-square-foot ballroom that divides into eight smaller rooms. Other highlights: two executive-style boardrooms for 12 and the 7,000-seat Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Koi, the Japanese restaurant with branches in New York, Los Angeles, and Bangkok, opened its first Las Vegas outpost in the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in November 2007. Available for private dinners and events, the stylish 350-seat restaurant includes a bar lined with golden mother-of-pearl and a sushi bar surrounded by gold textured-glass walls and a cascading waterfall.
Manhattan mega-eatery Hawaiian Tropic Zone opened a Vegas branch inside the Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood in November 2007. The three-tier, 200-seat dining room includes chef David Burke’s menu, a full bar, and a catwalk for nightly entertainment. An open-air patio can seat an additional 100, and full buyouts are available.
Also opening its first Vegas branch inside Planet Hollywood in August 2007 was the international steak-house chain Strip House. The 10,000-square-foot restaurant seats 200 in the main dining room and 50 in the lounge; full buyouts are available. Video LCD screens displaying black-and-white burlesque photos beam off the walls, giving the restaurant a decidedly Vegas-y atmosphere.
An entertainment-themed venue is a first for Vegas. Hotel guests can sip the signature “Paradise on the Strip” pineapple cocktails and try to catch a glimpse of celebrities at Extra Lounge, while correspondents from the Extra television news and gossip show broadcast live segments from the lounge every weeknight. The sleek space is available for events during the day and on weekend evenings.
