After opting not to hold a holiday party last year and hosting only a “tempered luncheon” the previous year, Las Vegas public relations powerhouse Kirvin Doak Communications decided this year “to celebrate a hard year, but a successful year,” said firm co-founder Dave Kirvin.
Nearly all of the agency’s 40 employees converged upon Las Vegas’s downtown roots Friday evening for cocktails, an historic scavenger hunt, and dinner at one of Fremont Street’s most iconic locations.
The evening began at the Griffin, on the less-touristy eastern end of the famous Fremont Street. From there, the Kirvin Doak crew launched into a 75-minute, 16-stop scavenger hunt that had participants searching for everything from Las Vegas's first telephone (on display at the Golden Gate Casino) to deep-fried Oreos and Twinkies at Nathan's Hot Dogs in the Mermaid's Casino.
“We haven’t done anything downtown before, and in the past couple of years, there have been some new places that have come online there that are fun,” Kirvin said. “We do have a lot of people who are new to Las Vegas in our office. They come from all over the country and don’t necessarily know a lot about the area. Education wasn’t the purpose of the event, but everyone got to see a part of the city that they maybe hadn’t seen before.”
The final stop of the evening was dinner at the Firefly Kitchen & Bar, in the historic Plaza Hotel and Casino.
