1. PROTESTS AGAINST TRUMP'S FAMILY SEPARATION POLICY PLANNED IN 132 U.S. CITIES: Protests are planned in 132 cities across the U.S. on June 30 to speak out against Donald Trump's policy of separating immigrant families at the border. Washington Post: "Activists will descend on city centers, state capitols and, in Washington, at Lafayette Square across from the White House. It wasn’t clear Tuesday how many people are expected to attend, although tens of thousands expressed interest on Facebook. 'We’re encouraging everyone who can possibly make it to D.C. to get there,' said Karthik Ganapathy, a MoveOn.org spokesman and co-organizer of the demonstration. A National Park Service spokesman said the agency received an application Monday to use Lafayette Park for a 'free speech demonstration against immigration detention' on June 30. The application, filed by MoveOn.org and local activist group D.C. Action Lab, estimates that 5,000 people will attend the rally. MoveOn, a progressive group that facilitates protests and petitions via its online organizing network, issued a call to action in response to Trump’s 'zero-tolerance' immigration policy last week. In the days since, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Leadership Conference, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, lawmakers and dozens of activist groups have signed on to help organize demonstrations and create Families Belong Together, an umbrella group for the coalition of activists involved." https://wapo.st/2M7QOWO
2. WHAT GOES INTO BRITAIN'S MOST LUXURIOUS HORSE-RACING FESTIVAL: Those who prefer a sporting event that's a little more posh than the World Cup would probably be interested in the Royal Ascot, Britain's annual, royally approved horse-racing festival taking place this week. CNBC: "Some 300,000 well-heeled racegoers will descend on the small town of Ascot in southern England to enjoy one of Britain's most iconic events on both the sporting and social calendars. The first Royal Ascot was in 1768 and since its inception a British monarch has attended every year. Queen Elizabeth II, her family and guests will arrive at 2 p.m. each day during the royal procession, in which they'll be driven in horse-drawn carriages down the race track and into the parade ring. Joining the Queen and her family in the royal enclosure will be the rich and famous from around the world. Transporting them to the festival in style will be 400 helicopters and a thousand limousines. To feed everyone during the event, organizers have ordered 11,000 pounds of salmon, 5,000 Angus steaks and 5,300 pounds of beef sirloin, 7,000 rumps of English lamb, 3,500 fresh lobsters and 8,000 Cornish crabs. And, of course, there will be afternoon tea. The royal meeting will serve 240,000 hand-crafted cakes, 120,000 buttermilk scones, 80,000 cups of tea, 60,000 finger sandwiches, 7,000 punnets of mixed berries and 2,650 pounds of Cornish clotted cream. ... The world's best race horses have come from countries as far away as Australia and the U.S. The competition will likely be dominated, however, by horses from Ireland's Coolmore racing empire and the Godolphin operation of Dubai's Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum." https://cnb.cx/2tcHslq
3. MORE HOTELS ARE ADDING ONSITE BREWERIES AND DISTILLERIES: In an effort to capitalize on the popularity of breweries and distilleries and to provide an incentive for longer stays, more hotels are adding the venues on site for travelers. The New York Times: “Following the path blazed by winery inns and microbrewery hotels like McMenamins, a chain of hotels in Oregon, a new crop of American hotels offers not just a comfortable bed and a leisurely stay, but also adult beverages you can’t get anywhere else. The Source Hotel in Denver features a branch of New Belgium Brewing devoted to small batch and sour beers just off the lobby. Guests of the 100-room hotel, located at the Source food hall and market in the River North district, will receive a freshly tapped glass of beer at check-in and can order beer flights from room service. Brews aging in barrels will share the hotel rooftop with a cantilevered pool and a restaurant featuring beer-paired dishes. Another big player in the craft beer business, Stone Brewing of Escondido, Calif., plans to begin construction of the Stone Brewing Hotel across the street from its brewery and its Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens restaurant, retail and beer garden complex. The hotel is expected to add 99 rooms and three bars to the rest of the company’s attractions, all located about 30 miles north of San Diego.” https://nyti.ms/2llTqFi
