Cutout Menus and Turntables Create Quirky Eatery

Open between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m., the 11-year-old Café Maurice, originally in Los Angeles, has relocated to South Beach, bringing with it a menu of affordable French entrées and a bar that serves both drinks and tapas. Founded by executive chef and professional tournament poker player Maurice Azoulay, former race car driver and financial backer David Meunier, and restaurateur Jean Michel Collet, the bistro morphs into an after-hours cabaret, during which time Azoulay trades the skillets for turntables, mixing everything from Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour to Bill Haley and the Rolling Stones. The dinner and early breakfast menus were pieced together using magazine cutouts and Magic Markers, and the restaurant keeps the quirky image going while serving an impressive wine selection of about a dozen whites, reds, and Champagnes, as well as a traditional French dessert menu.
