La Marea Adds a New Dimension to the Tides

Having opened on May 30, La Marea (which translates as "the tide" in Italian and Spanish) is inside the Tides South Beach hotel. The restaurant—Los Angeles-based Kor Hotel Group's latest project—blends Mediterranean-style fare with Northern Italian accents. Kelly Wearstler from Bravo's Top Design program handled the decor, which blends painted tortoise shells with 50- by 60-foot chandeliers and "bishop" chairs. The dining room can seat 60, while the front terrace can host 150 for cocktails, or dining events for as many as 52. The facility's Italian-born chef, Pietro Rota, whose last job was with West Hollywood's Il Sole restaurant, has also worked in London, Germany, France, Italy, and Brazil. Though his menu highly emphasizes the extra-fresh seafood platters, the indoor/outdoor venue also serves pasta, steaks, and salads.
