October 22, 2014: The Tasty Innovation From a Stationery Company, the Importance of Sound at Events, Will Emoji Costumes Be Big This Halloween?

1. THE TASTY INNOVATION FROM A STATIONERY COMPANY: We’ve seen beautiful invitations and other printed materials, but how about ones that taste good? Seattle-based Eat the Fine Print has developed edible greeting cards made from potato starch, water, palm oil, food coloring, and natural fruit flavors. Los Angeles Times: “You unwrap the card, read the message written in edible ink, then start nibbling. And if you want to try just a bite, then save your card for later, it will last for two years in a cool, dry place.” http://lat.ms/1DzZzzg

2. THE IMPORTANCE OF SOUND AT EVENTS: Sound triggers specific reactions in people—whether it’s the sizzle of a dish of food or the soundtrack to a haunted house or horror film. One of the people who orchestrate these moments is Joel Beckerman. Wired: “He’s a master of using sound and music to trigger chains of sensory and emotional responses that he calls “boom moments.” His company, Man Made Music, is responsible for everything from the sweeping sonic experience of the Super Bowl to the ubiquitous four-tone chime of AT&T.” http://wrd.cm/ZNCgmC

3. WILL EMOJI COSTUMES BE BIG THIS HALLOWEEN?: As more people—not just texting teens—use and recognize emoji, they could become a theme for costumes and decor at events. Mashable: “It’s probably not too early to officially declare 2014 as the Year of Emoji. To review: Drake got a prayer hands emoji tattoo, a parody Tumblr happened, the Internet got really upset about the lack of hot dog emoji and petitioned, Starbucks tried to capitalize on emoji—and oh yes, Seinfeld emoji were born.” http://on.mash.to/1uEkGcV
