The Jackson Memorial Foundation's Golden Angels Society and Saks Fifth Avenue of Dadeland teamed up on September 26 to put a new twist on a traditional fashion show by holding it at an airline hangar. The premiere of the Chanel Cruise 2008 line took place at Opa-Locka Airport and marked the first time that a Chanel line debuted in Miami before Paris and Milan. Ground controllers dressed in white jumpsuits directed guests into the hangar, where they were checked in and given boarding passes for the evening. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres as they mingled and examined the items up for bid in a silent auction, including Chopard jewelry and a two-night "superior suite" stay at the Mandarin Oriental Miami.
When the show began, guests were directed to their seats according to the zone number on their passes, as if they were boarding a plane. Everyone watched in awe as the hangar doors then opened and a million-dollar custom-outfitted private jet pulled up and unloaded several Chanel-clad models onto the runway. Nicole Hernandez, special events manager for the Jackson Memorial Foundation, and her team had guests talking about the production the rest of the night.Following the fashion show, guests were treated to a decadent meal prepared by Mena Catering. For the entrée, grilled mignonettes of beef with a truffle Madeira reduction were served. To top off the meal, dessert featured a chocolate crème brûlée with raspberry and passion fruit sorbet.
