On February 13, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts hosted more than 150 community members and Y.M.C.A. trustees, including the newly appointed Helio Castroneves-the driver who stepped into the national spotlight when he won the fifth season of television's Dancing With the Stars-to announce the Y.M.C.A. of Greater Miami's new "Building Our Home" campaign and to honor the campaign's six donors to date. The group gathered in the Ziff Opera House's Studio Theater, which was transformed from a black blank canvas to an energetic yet elegant Brazilian oasis.
Nuage Designs provided textured linens in fuchsia and purple and draped them over both high and low seating areas in addition to the 24-foot-long bar. Overhead, tropical plants and rectangular crystal-drop chandeliers, designed by Jason Frix, kept the vast space intimate. Catering from Restaurant Associates presented guests with Brazilian fare to nosh on including passed salt cod fritters and yucca fries with cilantro lime aioli, while two buffet tables offered hearty stews of beef, pork, shrimp, and black beans. The bar, also courtesy of Restaurant Associates, served authentic Brazilian beverages such as caipirinhas and caipiroskas.The evening concluded with a brief award ceremony honoring the six major contributors to the project, which plans to raise more than $27 million to help build three new Y.M.C.A. centers in Allapattah Village, southwest Miami, and south Dade County.
