Determined not to let her fear of air travel deter her from speaking for the Meeting Professionals International -- Greater New York (MPIGNY) chapter's season opener event, Erin Brockovich made a cross-country trek in a motor home (provided by Carey International) to make her scheduled presentation. More than 400 chapter members turned out at the Marriott Marquis' Astor Ballroom for the event, which was produced for the chapter by Dianne Devitt of DND Group and Karen Madden of Lehman Brothers. Devitt told us that interest in the presentation nearly doubled following the attack on the World Trade Center.
Eclectic/Encore Props provided some decorations for the cocktail hour area, including a Father Time-looking statue holding a small white globe with the number "1" painted on the outside to match the theme of Brokovich's speech--"The Power of One." A jazz trio from Chris Gillespie Entertainment played a selection of swinging jazz tunes for the crowd, who chatted energetically as they snacked on the spread of fruits, breads, crackers and an assortment of cheeses provided by the hotel.
