Slated to open in fall 2006, the National Sports Museum, a new event and exhibition space dedicated to Americans’ athletic pursuits, will house sports memorabilia in 100,000 square feet of space, and be the permanent home of the Heisman trophy. Plans for the venue from architectural firm Beyer Blinder Belle and design company Gallagher & Associates include the Hall of Halls lobby showcasing a mosaic from sports artist LeRoy Neiman; the Immersion Theater—a 360-degree cinema—connected to four exhibit spaces with interactive displays; and a third section called the Road to Greatness that will have sport-specific rooms and virtual reality activity stations. The museum will also have two dedicated event spaces and an on-site kitchen. The entire space will hold 2,000 people. —Anna Sekula
