The Rainforest Action Network is hoping that some humor
will translate into media attention for one of its causes. The environmental org is behind a “Billionaires for Coal” stunt on February 21, during which protestors dressed as billionaires will gather with bags of the black stuff and signs of support outside Merrill Lynch’s headquarters in Manhattan. (The bank is financing Dallas-based utility company TXU’s efforts to build 11 new coal-fired power plants in Texas.) Near the fat cats, environmental activists will counterdemonstrate with signage reading “Merrill Lynch: Coal Investments Cook the Climate.”
