Husband and wife John and Cathy Casey are combining their individual experiences in the production design and special event fields to launch a new company, i.e. Design Events Inc., this spring.
John, formerly of Jack Morton Design/PDG, has been doing television production design for 14 years, both in Europe and the United States. He received an Emmy in 2006 for his work on The Martha Stewart Show. Cathy started her career as the special events planner for a cultural arts center in North Carolina. Eight years ago, she moved to New York and has since worked for Inez Weinstein Special Events, the Horticultural Society of New York, and, most recently, the American Cancer Society.John and Cathy, immigrants from Ireland and Ethiopia, respectively, married three years ago and have been working full-time on their own Brooklyn-based company since September. John is heading up the design division, which has performed services for Inside Edition, while Cathy is in charge of event management, producing events for the American Cancer Society and Cornell University. The two hope to someday expand their company both nationally and internationally.
“We both come from countries that are fiercely independent and have never been successfully occupied,” says Cathy, explaining why the pair decided to leave their current jobs and go into business together. “We maintain that spirit of individuality in the launch of our own company.”
i.e. Design Events will be holding a formal launch party in March.
