This morning came the announcement that Meadowlands Xanadu—the massive entertainment center being built next to the northern New Jersey Meadowlands Sports Complex—has scored a 10-year deal with Pepsi. A giant branding opportunity, the agreement between the two companies is to create a 287-foot-tall Ferris wheel to be called the "Pepsi Globe."

Like London's Millennium Wheel, the Pepsi Globe will be more of an observation deck than a circus ride, with glass-enclosed capsules and a revolution time of 25 minutes. The 26 capsules will hold as many as 20 people each and offer views of Manhattan and the Hudson River. Also tied to the agreement is a series of marketing initiatives to promote the partnership, including Pepsi Globe-branded cans to be distributed throughout the country.Meadowlands Xanadu, which is scheduled to open in November, will sit on 94 acres of land and offer 2.3 million square feet of space. Divided into themed “districts”—areas for sports, entertainment, youth culture, food and home, and fashion—it will feature retail shops, restaurants, an indoor snow dome, a skydiving tower, movie theaters, and a concert and live theater venue.
