On Tuesday, Anthony Coscia, chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, said that the bistate agency is willing to help fund the renovation plans for Penn Station. According to NY1, the announcement is supported by Senator Charles Schumer, which is unsurprising given the delays and problems in recent months. Although no dollar figure was discussed, the Port Authority has $2 billion set aside for transit projects, so the outlook seems a positive one for supporters of the renovation.

The agency has also confirmed that it is planning to create an observation deck on the top floor of the Freedom Tower, the development currently under way at the World Trade Center site. According to the public affairs department, the Port Authority is looking for an owner and operator for the space; a request for qualifications will be issued in early May. Later in the year the Port Authority will issue a request for proposals, and the selection will be announced in the first half of 2009.
