James Beard Tasting Event Moves to L.A. Next Month

After nearly 20 years in the Hamptons, the James Beard Foundation's "Chefs & Champagne" party will head for Los Angeles early next month. The May 4 event on Melrose Place will be the first major tasting event for the foundation on the West Coast.

The event will feature the handiworks of 32 chefs, and here's a peek at one of the dishes on offer: Kristy Choo, pastry chef and owner of Venice's Jin Patisserie, will dish up confections of mascarpone cream layered with peach compote and passion-fruit jelly topped with ground-almond crumble.
